Safaga city tour

Highly recommended for those who want to get a closer look at daily life in Safaga. With its 35,000 inhabitants, it is not so small. Safaga was a seaport connected by a regular cruise ship service line. The port city was founded between 282 BC and 268 BC, originally called Philotera (Φιλοτέρα) by the Greek-Egyptian pharaoh Ptolemais II Philadelphus, who named the city after the name of his deceased sister. With many phosphate mines, it is considered the export center for phosphates. Later tourism was added, kite surfing and diving are especially popular in Safaga. Ahmed takes you to “downtown” Safaga. A visit to the local greengrocer and baker. We also stroll to a cane sugar pressing plant. A fresh glass of freshly pressed reed tastes refreshing. Some more explanation about wearing and giving gold, pop in to order a galabia from the tailor, and in the meantime take a look at the men playing dominoes. Peep inside a hair salon and barber, and a souvenir shop where you can enjoy a hibiscus or black tea. With a lot of explanation about Safaga and the Egyptian traditions we leave back to the hotel. Educational and fun.
