Dive sites around Safaga

Abu Kifan

This site lies in open sea and is exposed to the weather, so it is not always accessible.

The site is also known as The Deep One. Abu Kifan can be described as a small version of Elphinstone. This long, narrow reef stretches from north to south through slender plateaus and is one of the best-known wall dives in the Red Sea.
Schools of butterflyfish and groupers fight the current. You will see large groups of giant barracuda in open water. Hundreds of bright red common bigeyes gather over the flats of the plateau. This, together with beautiful black corals, soft corals and gorgonians, plus the fact that you can find a good angle at any time of day, makes this dive site enormously popular with underwater photographers.

Site characteristics:

  • Depth: 34 m
  • Level: Advanced
  • Type: Reef dive, boat dive
